The Swine Flu Pandemic and Hand Hygiene

The Swine Flu Pandemic and Hand Hygiene

This flu has the public extremely edgy and keenly aware of the importance of hand hygiene and how easily germs are spread now.

Germs naturally live on the skin and often pass from one person to another by physical contact, so it’s important that staff, visitors and customers cut risks of spreading infections by regularly washing their hands.
A recent study showed in 2006 by the University of Hertfordshire showed an incredible statistic on hand washing wherein 88% of hospital staff did not wash their hands between handling patients!
If this picture were reflected throughout the UK, it would mean more than 69,000 doctors, nurses and staff were failing to wash their hands. It is this transfer of germs that can cause infections and illness.
Another study revealed that 70% of people in the work place, who use the washroom, do not wash their hands. Absolutely incredible isn’t it?
