Police investigate dioxin in Italian mozzarella-

ROME (Reuters) - Makers of Italy's best mozzarella battled on Friday to save the reputation of their cheese after police found some of it was being made with milk contaminated with cancer-causing dioxin.

Police near Naples are investigating whether feed given to buffalo herds, which produce the best milk for mozzarella, was tainted, possibly by gangsters involved in illegal waste disposal.

The scandal is the latest blow to the cheese which used to be seen as by-word for fresh and natural Italian produce.

MIAMI (Reuters) - Miami police could soon be the first in the United States to use cutting-edge, spy-in-the-sky technology to beef up their fight against crime.

A small pilotless drone manufactured by Honeywell International, capable of hovering and "staring" using electro-optic or infrared sensors, is expected to make its debut soon in the skies over the Florida Everglades.

If use of the drone wins Federal Aviation Administration approval after tests, the Miami-Dade Police Department will start flying the 14-pound (6.3 kg) drone over urban areas with an eye toward full-fledged employment in crime fighting.

"Our intentions are to use it only in tactical situations as an extra set of eyes," said police department spokesman Juan Villalba.

"We intend to use this to benefit us in carrying out our mission," he added, saying the wingless Honeywell aircraft, which fits into a backpack and is capable of vertical takeoff and landing, seems ideally suited for use by SWAT teams in hostage situations or dealing with "barricaded subjects."

Pre Market - Trader Talk with Bob Pisani - CNBC.com

Futures jumped about 6 points as both weekly jobless claims and Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE, an indicator of the average increase in prices for domestic consumption), came in a bit below expectations. The dollar rallied on the PCE news (lower inflation is dollar-positive).

Start of a trend? South Korea's National Pension Service says it will no longer buy U.S. Treasurys; they cite falling yields and a desire to broaden their investments. They are the world's fifth largest pension fund, with $220 b in asets; they hold $14 b in U.S. government debt. It's not the size of their holdings (relatively small compared to the nearly $5 trillion in U.S. debt), the concern is that it may be the start of a trend.

The Fed's Term Lending Facility auction debuts today. Wall Street will have a chance to exchange mortgage assets for up to $75 b of government securities.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange is raising corn and soybean margins by 50 percent and 30 percent respectively; this should chase out at least some of the speculative interest in these grains, though it will also hurt hedgers as well.
