Marc Emery Heading To U.S. Jail

Vancouver's Marc Emery Awaits Extradition for Shipping Marijuana Seeds to the U. S.

Canada's self-proclaimed "Prince of Pot" was escorted out of B. C. Supreme Court and into jail Monday to await extradition to the U. S., where he is to serve up to five years in prison for shipping marijuana seeds across the border.

Marc Emery, 51, was indicted in 2005 along with two associates on drug and money-laundering charges stemming from a lucrative mail-order pot-seed business run out of Emery's Vancouver book and paraphernalia shop, which also doubled as B. C.'s Marijuana Party headquarters.

Two charges Emery faced--conspiracy to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to engage in money laundering-- were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea on the charge of conspiracy to manufacture marijuana.

He has agreed to a five-year imprisonment plea bargain in connection with his $3-million a year marijuana seed catalogue business, where most of his customers were American.

Nurses In New York Refusing Flu Vaccines

This year, the New York State Health Department is requiring all health care workers who come into contact with patients to get the flu vaccine, and will also require the H1N1 or swine flu vaccine as well. It's something the department says is for everyone's safety, but a number of workers are concerned about being forced to get the shot. Steve Ference has more on why some hospital workers say the mandate is flat out wrong.

Retail season expected to come up short, 7 trillion for debt issuances in September, Paulson and his friends in the market, taxpayers wont get TARP money back, Baltic dry declines after spike, consumer sentiment reported as bouyant after lows, G20 makes new promises. Some gain after so much pain in markets,

How Effective is the Flu Vaccine?

Dr. Mercola has a good summary on information on the flu vaccine. It is interesting to note that flu deaths in children increased earlier in this decade when mass vaccinations for the flu began. The research does not show any benefits from flu vaccine and shows plenty of negative side effects.

The majority of health professionals, myself included, do not get flu shots. So either they are based on political dogma or someone is making enough money to exert control of the political process. As CDC officials have repeatedly pointed out to me in workshops, in some cases their decisions are forced by political pressure and not by public health concerns.

Dr. Mercola comments:

How Effective is the Flu Vaccine?
Remember that the potential effectiveness of a flu vaccine is dependent on the ASSUMPTION, made nearly a year in advance, that Asia’s viral strains will be the ones hitting the U.S. When they guess wrong, the vaccine is worthless from the very start.
But does that mean they withdraw the flu vaccine when they discover it contains the wrong strains? NO! They just keep giving it out anyway.
But even if they were to overcome that hurdle and actually select the correct strains, there’s still no evidence that it does anyone any good to get a flu vaccine.
Study after study comes back showing the same dismal results: the flu vaccines are not an effective method of prevention of the flu, and they do not save lives. As mentioned earlier, they may even be responsible for an increased death rate in some groups.
Sometimes determining efficacy is as easy as reading the information coming straight from the vaccine manufacturer.
How about this quote taken directly from the flu vaccine FLULAVAL’s package insert (which you likely never see when getting the flu shot) for the 2009-2010 formula:
" FLULAVAL is an influenza virus vaccine indicated for active immunization of adults 18 years of age and older against influenza disease caused by influenza virus subtypes A and type B contained in the vaccine. This indication is based on immune response elicited by FLULAVAL, and there have been no controlled trials demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with FLULAVAL.”
That’s right, NO controlled trials demonstrating ANY decrease in your risk of contracting the flu at all after vaccination! (It also states that each dose contains a total of 25 mcg of mercury.)
For those of you who are still unconvinced, know that there’s plenty of scientific evidence available to back up the recommendation to avoid flu vaccines. In addition to studies mentioned in the video, here are several other examples showing that flu vaccines do not work for any age group:

  • A study published in the October 2008 issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine found that vaccinating young children against the flu had no impact on flu-related hospitalizations or doctor visits during two recent flu seasons.
The researchers concluded that "significant influenza vaccine effectiveness could not be demonstrated for any season, age, or setting" examined.
  • A 2008 study published in the Lancet found that influenza vaccination was NOT associated with a reduced risk of pneumonia in older people.
This supports an earlier study, published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
  • Research published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine also confirms that there has been no decrease in deaths from influenza and pneumonia in the elderly, despite the fact that vaccination coverage among the elderly has increased from 15 percent in 1980 to 65 percent now.
  • In 2007, researchers with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious
Diseases, and the National Institutes of Health published this conclusion in the Lancet Infectious Diseases: “We conclude that frailty selection bias and use of non-specific endpoints such as all-cause mortality, have led cohort studies to greatly exaggerate vaccine benefits.”
  • A large-scale, systematic review of 51 studies, published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews in 2006, found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo in children. The studies involved 260,000 children, age 6 to 23 months.
Last but not least, I think it says a lot that 70 percent of doctors and nurses, and 62 percent of other health care workers do NOT get the yearly flu shot.
The reasons why they opted to not get vaccinated were:
  • They didn't believe the vaccine would work
  • They believed their immune systems were strong enough to withstand exposure to the flu
  • They were concerned about side effects

BiberCasino: The first licensed online casino in english and german

While a lot of online casino operators like to offer standrad games such as Roulette or BlackJack, BiberCasino.com is more into constantly develoing new slot machines and scratch cards. "We like to think of a casino - online and offline - as an entertainment venue. This means regardless if you loose or win you need to have a sensational experience while playing" says one of the founders, german-born Rudolf King, who met his co-founders while studying engineering at M.I.T. in Boston. Thus they like to think constantly what signs, pictures, colours, music, free games, progressive jackpots and bonus programs could make a difference for a player. Of course online roulette is among the games offered as are BlackJack and Baccarat as well as video poker with up to 50 hands per online play. But the emphasis is on developing at least 5 new slot games and 3 new scratch cards every month. The companies finances are guaranteed by a Munich "Kasino" (Casino Royale of Munich), whose owners took a 31% stake in the new company in 2006 and agreed to guarantee up to 5 million € (about 7,4 million $ / 4,5 million GB Pound) in single payouts. Payment by the customers can be effected through Credit Card, money bookers and several other well-known payment methods, including a newly developed mobile phone charge. While constantly increasing its portfolio of games, BiberCasino is offeres only in two languages : german and english, which are the 2 mother tongues of the founders. "We believe you should have a thorough understanding of your customers, and that includes having spent a long time in the respective country" says Brad Whitman, who was born in upstate New York and and raised in Connecticut. With other founders coming from Norfalk, UK and a small industrial town near Munich, Germany, the only markets BiberCasino targets are the UK and Germany; due to the restrictions of UIGA the USA are out of question at the moment. And they like what they see : no. 1 in Germany since 2008 against stiff competition from the german Spielbanken websites; No. 7 in the UK since January 2009 against major players such as listed british companies and sports betting operators. So they can stay a private company and maintain their big goal - having more entertainment slot games than any other online casino worldwide. And the name ? The beaver (german : Biber) is the mascot of M.I.T. - the three founders like to honour their alma mater, for without her, they would never had met.

The Beaver´s Casino - specializes in scratch cards and new slot games

we wonder if the recession - depression has really ended, delusions of grandeur among monetary policymakers, sudden rises followed by sudden collapses,  bad moves for the economy to force gold and silver down that could also fail, end to market funds guarantees, capital continues to flee,

The FDIC Is in Trouble

As we all know, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) guarantees depositors that they’ll get their money back if a bank fails, at least up to a certain amount. To fund its operations, the FDIC collects small fees from the banks that are held in reserve for the purpose of taking over troubled banks and paying off depositors.

Since the Great Depression, a period marked by widespread runs on banks, the FDIC has done a good job of fulfilling its mandate. So how are they doing in this crisis?

In a nutshell, they are in trouble.

The FDIC insures 8,246 institutions, with $13.5 trillion in assets. Not all of them are going bankrupt, of course. Yet as of late July, a disturbing 64 banks had gone belly up this year – the most since 1992 – costing the FDIC $12.5 billion. At the end of Q1, the agency was already asking for emergency funding.

And worse, much worse, is likely yet to come. The following chart shows the total assets on the books of the FDIC’s list of 305 troubled banks. The list doesn’t include the biggest banks that are considered too big to fail, as they are being separately supported with bailouts. By contrast, if the banks on this list fail, the FDIC is on the hook to have to step in and take them over and, of course, make depositors whole.

AssetsofInsuredProblemInstitutions
Other measures of how serious the losses at banks are becoming can be seen in the chart below, which shows charge-offs and non-current loans at all banks. You can see that the Net Charge-offs remain stubbornly high, with banks charging off almost $40 billion in bad loans in the last two quarters alone. And the number of non-current loans – loans where payments are not being kept up – is soaring.

Together, these measures indicate the potential for more big failures and more big bailouts coming down the pike.

BankProblemLoansApproaching100BAreDangerous

About Those Reserves…

Into the battle against bank insolvency the Fed brings a level of reserves that can best be described as paper-thin. From almost $60 billion last fall, the FDIC’s reserves have been drawn down to only about $13 billion today, a 16-year low. A quick look at the FDIC’s own data shows us how inadequate those reserves are compared to the deposits they are now insuring.

The chart below says it all:

DepositInsuranceFundReserveCoverageRatioIsInadequate

As you can see, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation currently covers each dollar on deposit with a trivial 2/10ths of a penny.

MIT Students Take Pictures from Space on $150 Budget. - iReport.com

Two MIT students have successfully photographed the earth from space on a strikingly low budget of $148. Perhaps more significantly, they managed to accomplish this feat using components available off-the-shelf to the average layperson, opening the doors for a new generation of amateur space enthusiasts. The pair plan to launch again soon and hope that their achievements will inspire teachers and students to pursue similar endeavors.

Justin Lee and Oliver Yeh have always dreamed of seeing the earth from space, but until recently, they believed that they had neither the budget nor the technical expertise to get a camera into the stratosphere.

Early September, in a moment of creative inspiration, the pair devised an innovative low-cost, low-effort method for space photography. The device they created cost less than $150, and they were able to build it without any significant modifications to out-of-the-box electronics.

The secret behind their success was figuring out which consumer-ready components to pick-and-match to solve the problems space photographers face. Their device had to: rise to an altitude high enough to capture space photographs, withstand extreme temperatures of the stratosphere, and be trackable/recoverable.

The students knew that helium-filled weather balloons were capable of reaching altitudes of 20+ miles, high enough to photograph the curvature of the earth. Weather balloons were also relatively inexpensive; a 300g latex balloon can be ordered online for $20 and can be filled with helium at a party store for $30. If they could keep their camera device light, then a 300g balloon would have enough lift to carry their device into the upper stratosphere.

Watch High Frontier Online Free

Outer space is open for business. From orbits 36,000 km away, satellites run our daily lives. They see and hear everything. But this booming $50 billion dollar a year industry is virtually unregulated. Space has become the exclusive domain of the biggest and strongest with America, Russia and China all developing weapons to take out each other's satellites. As space becomes increasingly commercialized and militarized, are we allowing the dangers to outweigh the potential benefits?

Dr. Douglas Spouts Off on the Flu Shot

You will need to take strong defensive action if you are forced to take a flu shot. This will not be a normal flu shot. Dr. Douglass' recommendations are a good place to start.

How many shots are enough?

I was suspicious the moment I heard the talk of mass vaccinations for swine flu.

But now that they're saying people may need as many as four flu shots this year, I'm no longer just suspicious -- the lights are flashing and all my warning bells are ringing at full volume.

I don't quite know just what they're up to yet -- but I'm pretty sure it has little to do with that weapon of mass distraction known as swine flu.

Apparently, health officials still know so little about the swine flu vaccine that they don't even know how many shots people will need in order for it to be effective.

Welcome to your new life as a lab rat.

On top of that pig needle, they want everyone to get the regular flu shot. And if you've never had a flu shot before, well then, you should get two. .

It's enough to make your head spin -- or at least sprout a curly tail and start squealing.

We've had other disease panics in recent years, some far worse than swine flu, yet there was never any talk about mass forced vaccinations before, much less three or four jabs in a row.

There hasn't been a forced vaccination scheme on this scale since the polio shots of the 1950s, but school officials are buying into the panic, hook, line and oinker. Why is it that some of the least educated people always end up in charge of education?

I've already told you what you can do to protect yourself if you're forced to get a swine flu shot. The same goes for your kids, too.

Wiping the lipstick off the pig,

William Campbell Douglass II, M.D.

Cancer Frequencies: Finally a Clinical Trial

We've known for decades that frequencies are an excellent approach to treating cancer with dramatically less side effects than chemotherapy and radiation. It is nice to finally see a group do a successful clinical trial on this.

This team did not even use frequencies in the range known to kill cancer cells and were successful. Image what they could if they utilized the expertise in the worldwide community working with this technology!

An important finding (pointed out for many years on this site) is that frequencies are specific to specific cells and cell types. This makes it challenging for the average university research groups. As Rife has shown us, getting the exact frequencies requires painstaking work for many years with highly refined tools not generally available.

Also well known, and can be inferred by the data in this study, is that it is difficult to eliminate cancer completely for terminal cases, but possible to signficantly increase the life span and quality of life compared to conventional treatment.

Abstract

Purpose
Because in vitro studies suggest that low levels of electromagnetic fields may modify cancer cell growth, we hypothesized that systemic delivery of a combination of tumor-specific frequencies may have a therapeutic effect. We undertook this study to identify tumor-specific frequencies and test the feasibility of administering such frequencies to patients with advanced cancer.

Patients and methods
We examined patients with various types of cancer using a noninvasive biofeedback method to identify tumor-specific frequencies. We offered compassionate treatment to some patients with advanced cancer and limited therapeutic options.

Results
We examined a total of 163 patients with a diagnosis of cancer and identified a total of 1524 frequencies ranging from 0.1 Hz to 114 kHz. Most frequencies (57â€"92%) were specific for a single tumor type. Compassionate treatment with tumor-specific frequencies was offered to 28 patients. Three patients experienced grade 1 fatigue during or immediately after treatment. There were no NCI grade 2, 3 or 4 toxicities. Thirteen patients were evaluable for response. One patient with hormone-refractory breast cancer metastatic to the adrenal gland and bones had a complete response lasting 11 months. One patient with hormone-refractory breast cancer metastatic to liver and bones had a partial response lasting 13.5 months. Four patients had stable disease lasting for +34.1 months (thyroid cancer metastatic to lung), 5.1 months (non-small cell lung cancer), 4.1 months (pancreatic cancer metastatic to liver) and 4.0 months (leiomyosarcoma metastatic to liver).

Conclusion
Cancer-related frequencies appear to be tumor-specific and treatment with tumor-specific frequencies is feasible, well tolerated and may have biological efficacy in patients with advanced cancer.

Watch The Last Days of Lehman Brothers Online Free

A year ago I knew nothing about finance. As far as I was concerned a credit crunch was what happened when my programme's end credits were squeezed into the top right hand corner of the TV screen to make way for a "coming next".

It was a disaster movie, it was Apollo 13 with the titans of Wall Street racing the clock to save the stricken bank; it was a Greek tragedy with Lehman's chief executive brought down by his own tragic flaw; it was Twelve Angry Men with solutions sought in smoke-filled rooms

So when the global credit crunch hit the news last year and newsreaders told all about how bankers had been caught out buying and selling debt my automatic reaction was: "Oh that's a good idea, can we get someone to buy ours?"

And then Kate Harwood, Head of BBC Drama Production, sidled up to me in the middle of March and asked me to produce a 60-minute drama about the weekend Lehman Brothers went bankrupt.

'Financial idiot'

I warned her that she had picked the wrong woman and probably ought to find someone who at the very least understood the business pages of the Sunday papers, but she was firm.

If a financial idiot like me could produce a drama that explained what had happened to a financial idiot like her, we would be performing a public service.

I had only a few weeks to get very quickly up to speed.

We were working with the BBC team who were preparing a documentary series to mark the anniversary, and as soon as I read the research they had pulled together it was clear that we had all the material for a great drama.

Yes, it was about finance, but it was about so much more besides.

It was a disaster movie, it was Apollo 13 with the titans of Wall Street racing the clock to save the stricken bank; it was a Greek tragedy with Lehman's chief executive brought down by his own tragic flaw; it was Twelve Angry Men with solutions sought in smoke-filled rooms.

In mid April our scriptwriter, Bafta-nominated Craig Warner, started work and our drama began to take shape.

London's 'Fed'

James Cromwell (right) and Corey Johnson (left)
James Cromwell (right) plays US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson

We embarked on casting and met an extraordinary number of expat American actors living and working in the UK.

We were pleased to attract the talents of James Cromwell (LA Confidential, Babe, Six Feet Under, Tales of the City) to play US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and Corey Johnson (United 93) to play Lehman CEO Dick Fuld.

As a low budget drama for BBC Two, we were never going to be able to shoot New York in New York, so we got busy trying to find it within the M25.

We looked at office blocks for Lehman's offices, and stately homes for the boardroom at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, (where the fate of Lehman was thrashed out a year ago).

We were startled on one location recce to find that we were being taken to the 14th-floor offices that had been used by Lehman's in London until only nine months before.

We committed to the space and found ourselves pressing Lehman's office furniture into service as… Lehman's office furniture. We had found the New York Fed just outside Croydon.

I think I understand a little more about finance now. I even read the business pages first now when the Sunday papers come.

But I wonder if it will last...

The Last Days of Lehman Brothers is broadcast on BBC Two at 2100 BST, on 9 September 2009.

Cramer and Sheen to Cameo Wall Street 2

Oh, The New York Times, if only you had been keeping up with your internet research, you wouldn't have thought that Charlie Sheen making a cameo in Wall Street 2 was nearly as interesting. As a matter of fact, if you wanted to know about Money Never Sleeps, the Wall Street sequel, you could have watched our video script review coverage and we would have told you about Sheen, Shia LaBeouf's character, Gekko's return - the works.

As it is, The Times did get to talk to Oliver Stone as he wandered around Wall Street a week before he starts filming the sequel. Stone seems whimsical that things in the financial sector that never would have gotten press coverage before started getting noticed after his film. Both he and Michael Douglas (who will be returning to his Oscar winning portrayal of Gekko) say it's weird to have fresh-faced Wall Streeters tell them how the original 1987 film got them into the business.

As far as cameos go, Sheen isn't the only one The New York Times is reporting:

Another aspect of Wall Street that changed — the financial press — borrowed some of the glamour of the film’s subject. Jim Cramer, the hyperkinetic host of “Mad Money” on CNBC and a former hedge fund manager, who certainly did his part to alter the complexion of financial news, will make an appearance in the film.

"Wall Street" Sequel: Michael Douglas, Oliver Stone

LOS ANGELES — Michael Douglas and Oliver Stone are back together again with a sequel to their 1987 hit "Wall Street."

Douglas is reprising his role as Gordon Gekko and Stone is on board again to direct the sequel, which for now has the working title "Wall Street 2," said 20th Century Fox spokesman Gregg Brilliant.

Brilliant said the project is timely and relevant given the state of the world.

"We need to keep the story line under wraps, but it's literally ripped from today's headlines," Brilliant said. "It's going to be very big and very cool."

With the economy and financial markets in a tailspin, it will be different times for Douglas' Gekko. In the original film, corporate raider Gekko was a symbol of Wall Street greed and corruption during the boom era of the 1980s.

Gekko has endured because audiences give him the "same kind of respect we've got for the great white shark," Douglas said in an interview Friday with Associated Press Television News for his upcoming life-achievement award from the American Film Institute.

"He's a villain. Gordon Gekko is a great, old-fashioned villain," Douglas said. "And, interestingly enough, if you look at most actors' careers, their biggest achievement, not necessarily success, but (achievement), is playing a bad guy."

Academy Awards voters agreed. Douglas earned the best-actor Oscar for Gekko.

The sequel is scheduled to start shooting this summer. Edward Pressman, who produced "Wall Street," also is back for the sequel, while Allan Loeb ("21") wrote the screenplay.
